Lights, camera, fashion! With the Golden Globes and SAG Awards under our belts, it’s time to analyze the red carpet trends we’ve seen thus far and predict what we can expect fashion-wise from the holy grail of award’s season: the Oscars.

Bulb Sleeves

“Killing Eve’s” Jodie Comer wore a green satin Mary Katrantzou gown with a color that would blend seamlessly into the “Wizard of Oz” Emerald City and a silhouette fit for Comer’s role as fashion-forward Villanelle. What really took center-stage in this look was the featured statement sleeves.

Another celeb that sported voluminous “arm candy” at the Golden Globes was Zoey Deutch. Draped elegantly, Deutch’s effortless Fendi jumpsuit resembled a gown. Once again, the highlight of the garment was its shapely sleeves.

This trend, however opulently chic in evening wear, can be equally effective in an everyday look. Achievable in dresses and blouses, we will see this bulb sleeve trend rule 2020 both on the red carpet and off.

Hair Jewelry

Necks, wrists and ears aren’t the only features that should shine with jewels. Both new and seasoned actors sported this fresh take on accessorization.

Chloe Coleman, 11-year-old “Big Little Lies” actor proved one is never too young to tackle the industry’s biggest new trends. Coleman’s polished suiting look was complete with celestial hair embellishments. Sun-like and sparkling, these accessories shone just as bright as the young star herself.

The queen of Dior, Charlize Theron, branched out at the SAG Awards in a Givenchy two-piece gown. Matching the garment’s bejeweled crop top, the “Bombshell” actor chose a hair accessory that beautified her brunette, middle-parted mane.

Power Suits

It’s 2020 and the only thing more powerful than a woman is a woman in a suit. And so far, the women on the red carpet have not disappointed.

“Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’s” Margaret Qualley wore an all-black, shimmery suit. The masculine ensemble was enhanced by feminine detailing, including its high-luster fabric and embellished broach.

Millie Bobby Brown joined Qualley in the power suit trend with the look she wore while attending the SAG Awards. Stark white from head to pointed toe and featuring a jacket that morphed into a floor length skirt, Brown’s suited outfit felt fresh and innovative.

Polka Dots

I have a riddle…What’s black, white and multi-sized polka-dotted all over? That’s right; Zoe Kravitz’s Golden Globes gown. In perfect alignment with her signature evening wear stylings, the look was something out of Turner Classic Movies. However timeless, Kravitz’s polka dots felt equally on the forefront of fashion.

And maybe polka dots really are making a comeback. “Stranger Things” star and rising fashion icon Sadie Sink also sported the polka dot trend on the red carpet in her tulle Gucci gown. With the perfect addition of bejeweled straps and a pop of color in every polka dot, the ensemble was youthful and dreamy.

Tickled Pink

Coming out of the “Year of Coral” according to Pantone, it is no surprise that coral’s chromatic cousin pink, has been one of the most popular colors on hues on the red carpet. Just in time for the spring season, celebrities pulled out all the stops with this eye-catching coloring.

Cynthia Erivo had heads turning at the 2020 SAG Awards. In a bright, fuchsia number by Schiaparelli, Erivo was a front runner on every best dressed list, including Vanity Fair, Vogue, The Hollywood Reporter, and Harper’s Bazaar. This two-piece couture look with an impactful silhouette showed just how effective the vibrant pink trend can be.

Another hot pink gown was worn by “Game of Thrones” actress Sophie Turner. In an ensemble that was the epitome of a modern barbie doll, Turner fiercely strutted her way down the red carpet. With a silky yet structured fabric and a galactically-reminiscent belt, this look displayed the versatility of the color pink.

And Turner wasn’t the only Jonas Brother wife that chose a pink hue. For her Golden Globes evening wear look, Priyanka Chopra Jonas displayed a classy, off-the-shoulder, draped gown. Paired with a glam side-swoop hairstyle and an impressive Bvlgari diamond necklace, the pink gown channeled classic Hollywood.

What’s Next?

The Oscars, airing live on February 9th this year, is the most prestigious awards ceremony for those in the Hollywood industry. Naturally, this means that the red carpet leading up to the event brings some of the most iconic celebrity looks of the year. Likely, we will see trends such as power suiting, hair embellishments and more from this list not only represented, but mastered at the Oscars.
