Style the Celeb Way: Kent State Wear

Style+the+Celeb+Way%3A+Kent+State+Wear

To some, the beginning of a new school year marks the beginning of a new chapter, but for others, it simply marks the beginning of their countdown to the first home football game of the season. Game days at Kent State are practically their own holiday; students are filled with school spirit as the streets become flooded with waves of blue and gold. Football games are the perfect occasion to show off your school spirit and break out one of the hundreds of Kent State shirts you’ve unnoticeably collected throughout the years. This year, trade out your usual jean and t-shirt combo, and take some inspiration from your favorite celebrities to help construct your perfect, golden flash friendly outfit.

Up-and-coming model, Sofia Richie, consistently rocks her eclectic laid-back style that is too cool to ignore. Although just 17, Richie has already starred in a campaign for Mary Grace Swim and was the face of Madonna’s Material Girl Collection. Richie also recently made headlines when news broke of her romantic relationship with Justin Bieber. The two have been seen together rocking designers like Jeremy Scott and popular athletic brands like Adidas, Nike, and Puma. If your style relates to Sofia, this is how to create an outfit inspired by her while incorporating Kent State spirit wear.

Start this look with a basic black bodysuit, like the Preciosa Bodysuit from Nasty Gal ( $48.00 ). This bodysuit is chic with its scoop back and high neckline, and it pairs perfectly with loose fitting Kent State sweatpants. If loose fitting sweatpants aren’t your style, a pair of joggers would make a great substitution! Adding a fresh pair of white Nikes or Adidas finishes this look, but not before grabbing a Kent State bucket hat from the bookstore ( $20.00 ).

Boys, don’t miss this opportunity to express some personal style, too. Take a look at ex-Gossip Girl actor turned musician, Penn Badgley. His rugged style exudes a careless bad boy persona that’s worthy of emulating.

Light wash, destroyed 511 Slim Fit Levi cut-off jean shorts ( $58.00 ) paired with a short sleeve denim button up is the base of this outfit. Add any Kent State crew neck sweatshirt to go over the denim button up. To keep this outfit looking laid back, let the collar and tails of the denim shirt peek out. Leaving the shirt untucked also continues the effortless look. To finish this Badgley inspired outfit, pair it with graphic socks and Dr. Marten Whiton Canvas and Suede boots ( $115.00 ).

Another celebrity to always keep in mind when looking for inspiration is the queen of bohemian style, Vanessa Hudgens. Hudgens is often seen wearing midi and maxi skirts, colorful prints, culotte pants, and wide-legged trousers. Culotte pants are on trend for this fall, and stores like TopShop, Asos, and Urban Outfitters have a plethora to choose from.

Urban Outfitters’ Ecote Lila Printed culotte pant ( $59.00 ) subtly incorporates shades of Kent’s colors, blue and gold, in its print, making them the perfect pant to pair with your favorite Kent State top. Instead of wearing these culottes with a plain cotton t-shirt, check out the Kent State Bookstore and grab a vintage-inspired top, like their Freshly Camp Ringer Tee ( $27.98 ).  Aside from her signature boho style, Hudgens is also seen wearing edgier rock inspired outfits, too. In order to fuse both sides of Hudgens’ style in this look, finish it with a rad pair of Jeffery Campbell “Hanson” woven cutout booties that are available at Nordstrom for under $200.00.

Another up-and-comer in the modeling industry whose style stays true to herself is 19-year-old Hailey Baldwin. For the last celebrity inspired game day look, we combined two of Baldwin’s staples: denim and oversized pieces.

Senior, Anastasia Dragatsis, mimics Baldwin by wearing an 80’s vintage oversized Levi denim jacket over a gold Kent State t-shirt. To add a feminine touch, Dragatsis wears a white textured skater skirt from Zara. Baldwin’s style is known for being effortlessly cool, and Dragatsis’ outfit does the perfect job exuding that same relaxed look. However, this outfit veers from Baldwin’s usual style when it comes to footwear. Like any Kent State student knows, football games sometimes mean rain. The best way to continue tailgating festivities all day is to choose Hunter Original Tall Rain Boots ( $150.00) and avoid missing out on any fun.

Although we wish football season could be year round, at some point it has to come to an end. This doesn’t mean we have to stop incorporating our Kent gear into our everyday outfits, though. Hopefully, these looks will inspire you to flaunt not only your school spirit, but your personal style, too.
