The fashion industry is evolving to become more diverse, featuring plus size and models of color at New York Fashion Week.
The industry is also cat walking toward gender fluid fashion with support from non-binary celebrities such as Jaden Smith and Australian model from “Orange is the New Black,” Ruby Rose.

Dorothy Dandridge was the Marilyn Monroe of black cinema. She was the first African-American actress to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in her breakout 1954 film, “Carmen Jones.” Dandridge’s wardrobe was filled with well-tailored and timeless pieces, such as off the shoulder blouses and slacks. She would add statement jewelry for the finishing touches.

As a singer, actress, entrepreneur and fashion designer, Rihanna has proved that not only can she do it all, but she can look good doing it. She can wear just about anything, from a sheer Swarovski dress to silk pajamas at red carpet events.
The Barbadian beauty constantly keeps fans on their toes with her experimental music beats and various looks. Rihanna is rewriting the rules of the pop music and fashion industry.

Singer and muse of photographer Jean Paul Goude, Grace Jones paved the way for androgynous fashion. Artists such as Lorde, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga were influenced by the disco diva.

Lupita’s Oscar winning performance, her flawless complexion and an elegant yet colorful wardrobe made her an overnight ‘It Girl.’
