It is a little known fact that wrinkles and age spots begin to form in your mid-20s, according toAgein, a blog about all things dermatology. You may not see them develop fully, but your skin begins changing. The hormones of your youth have gone away, oily skin will quickly change to dry skin and wrinkles will become more and more apparent.
Of course as college students, we don’t have access to vampire facials, full body rejuvenations, or, dare I say, Botox. However, we do have access to an array of anti-aging creams and serums that won’t break the bank, but still tighten your skin and give you a celebrity glow.
Cleansers
To get the best, most moisturized skin of your life, you will have to create some good habits. One being washing and moisturizing every single morning and night. You can wash your face using any soap, but, as stated by Fashionista, it is best to use a gentle hypoallergenic cleanser like the Neutrogena Naturals ($5.99, target.com) because your skin is less likely to flare up and get puffy.
It is advised that once a week, or every other week, you use an exfoliator to remove the dead skin cells on top of your skin and to stimulate your face. A good one to use is the Bioré Baking Soda Pore Cleanser ($5.99, target.com) because it gently washes deep into your pores.
Serums and Moisturizers
To moisturize, we suggest one of two options: either to use a cream or a serum. According to Women’s Health, there isn’t that big of a difference between the two, other than the fact that serums contain a higher concentration of the anti-aging all-stars like retinol and Q10. You use serums the same as you would a moisturizer.
A very popular and wallet-friendly serum is the RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Serum ($24.99, ulta.com). This serum is very lightweight, which makes it great for oily and combination skin types. Moisturizer will be less expensive and a little thicker than the serum, but will have anti-aging superstars like collagen that will help give you a glow.
The L’Oreal Paris Collagen Moisture Filler ($8.99, target.com) is a great day and night cream that is lightweight. When you apply the cream, rub in an upward circular motion to stimulate your face. With both the serum and the cream, it is very important that you also apply it down to your chin and upper neck.
Eye Cream
You can decide to finish after moisturizing and washing to help prevent wrinkles, but you can also take it one step further use an under-eye cream. Because, honestly, who wants dark circles or crow’s feet? The best, most natural under-eye treatment is the Yes to Blueberries Eye Firming Treatment ($8.99, target.com). It is a very thin, lightweight serum that helps firm up your under eye so you can avoid those concealer creases after a long day.
So, are you dying to go out and make a little investment to help your skin out? If you start slowly by incorporating a serum or cream into your skin routine, you will see slight differences in your skin as you begin age. And of course, a few wrinkles won’t send you over the edge.
