five costumes that could take over this halloween
Halloween is that time of year when we have an excuse to go party, get free candy, carve pumpkins and especially dress up as our alter egos for a night. I’m sure we’ve all had some notable Halloween costumes that have stuck in our minds, or maybe you still have yet to wear that perfectly creative costume you’ve been dying to step out in. To get your Halloween spirits glowing, here are five costumes that might be at the top of the list and dominate this Halloween season.
Growing up, we’ve had our fair share of dressing up like fairies, ghosts, skeletons and witches. But, as the influence of pop culture slowly takes hold of Gen Z, we see more creative costumes from our favorite celebrities, movie characters and social media trends. This year has been filled with unforgettable moments that can serve as the perfect muse for your costume this Halloween.
This has been a year for iconic movies which has produced many costume ideas. For the first costume up, we have Elvis and Priscilla Presley. The biopic “Elvis,” released on June 24, has caused a huge frenzy on social media. Austin Butler’s unforgettable performance as Elvis and the movie’s ability to bridge a generational gap have given way to a new wave of Gen Z Elvis fans. Dressing up as the King of Rock and Roll can be a fun costume to do as an individual or with a counterpart to dress up as the just-as-iconic Priscilla Presley, Elvis’ once wife. To build this legendary costume, Elvis’ iconic sunglasses, his bedazzled capes and flare pants are all easily accessible to find on places like Amazon and more. This couple’s costume is the perfect way to ‘Shake, Rattle and Roll’ this Halloween.
An easy but memorably hilarious costume to do with your friends, and one that has already been used as a viral sensation, is inspired by this year’s movie release of “Minions: The Rise of Gru.”
“Minions: The Rise of Gru,” which was also released this summer, grew its popularity from the viral trend of large groups called ‘Gentleminions’ dressing up in full suits to go watch the movie. This not only caused positive commotion for the movie, but it also garnered some negative reception for some who were ‘banned’ by theaters. So, don’t get spooked if you see a mob of ‘Gentleminions’ holding bananas this Halloween. Below, is just one of many others dressing for the occasion.
Another way to dress to the nines this Halloween is by entering a simulation as Alice and Jack from “Don’t Worry Darling,” played by the iconic Florence Pugh and Harry Styles. Though this movie only came out on Sept. 23, it’s been long awaited for its cast and the viral drama surrounding the movie and the actors. The movie’s twisted drama already has people planning the perfect costume for this Halloween. Pugh’s character, Alice Chambers, will be one character to watch out for this Halloween season because of her simplistic, but bloody costume. With just a simple long white dress, a black bow in your hair and some heels, don’t worry, darling, I’m sure you’ll escape Halloween in this.
To wrap up the cinema inspired costumes, we end it off with a horror sure to cause a scream this Halloween. Inspired by the first film “X” by Ti West, “Pearl” recently hit theaters along with “Don’t Worry Darling.” Many are calling Pearl, played by Mia Goth, the female Joker with her twisted, demented persona that captured the eyes of viewers, and it’s the perfect spooky costume. Don an all-red early 1900s silhouette and don’t be afraid to cover yourself with fake blood. Below is a small review of Pearl, to get you in the mind of her persona, not just her outfits.
Last but certainly strange if I weren’t to include it for this Halloween: “Stranger Things.” As we know, “Stranger Things” is beloved by the world, but its latest season has adapted stand out characters such as Vecna, Max and Eddie Munson. These costumes will no doubt levitate to the top this year’s Halloween and are a great chance to dress up with a group of friends to embody the world of “Stranger Things.” Because of its success, you can easily find premade costumes for almost all characters, especially Eddie Munson who has had a viral life of his own on social media. So, enter the Upside Down this Halloween – at your own risk.
Of course, these five costumes are only a dent into the creative, memorable costumes we will see this Halloween, but hopefully you can take inspiration from these five and make them your best costumes yet. Don’t let those ghouls and goblins ruin your Halloween, because “it’s all just a bunch of hocus pocus” anyway.
