Trends come and trends go, but sometimes they stick around. These past few years, I have found it hard to keep up with the latest fashion trends and the different aesthetics that consume our algorithm and culture today. With platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and even YouTube, there are so many different paths that we can go down to discover what makes us feel the most confident in ourselves.
One day over winter break, I was mindlessly scrolling on Pinterest when I discovered their Pinterest Predicts page for 2025. Curious, I went through all of their forecasting and was fascinated by the amount of culture and fashion they predicted. I decided to go back to their 2024 predictions to see how accurate they were, and was surprised to see the amount of trends that emerged throughout 2024.
Pinterest Predicts is a social network site that releases an annual trend report every year. Pinterest takes user interests and searches from across their website and collects data to make the predictions more precise. While the website can be used for fashionistas who are trying to stay ahead of the latest styles, the website can also be used for businesses and marketing to analyze patterns and consumer behavior.
On Dec. 6, 2023, Pinterest predicted the following trends for 2024:
“Eclectic Grandpa”: Gen Z redefining the new with the old with this trend—retro streetwear, cardigans, and customized clothing made an appearance in 2024.
“Head to Glow”: Focusing self care on not only the face, but the entire body as well. The emergence of luxurious body lotions and body care routines.
“Give a Scrap”:A move toward fabric repurposing and sustainability. Being able to customize outfits and making every style unique to you.
Even though Pinterest has forecasted spot-on aesthetics, there are still trends that never really took off. Small aquarium designs, customized piggy banks, and Western Gothic style were predictions I never really noticed emerging throughout the year.
One Pinterest Prediction for 2025 that I am fully prepared to lean into this year is the fisherman aesthetic. Picture this: cable knit sweaters, stripes on stripes, fish bags, seashell necklaces, and chic rain boots (even when it’s not raining). Other trend predictions include bold patterns and electric prints leaning maximalist, dark cherry-colored makeup, and castlecore—which Pinterest labels as the “comeback of the highest order.”
There are so many different forecasting websites out there that predict the new and upcoming trends that will arise in 2025. Fashion websites such as WGSN, Trendstop, and more. Pinterest Predictions is just one fun way to look forward to the upcoming year and what it has in store.
