By now, almost everyone has seen or heard of Alex Consani in some way, shape or form. Whether it be watching her comedic videos on TikTok, watching her on the runway for the biggest brands or hearing about her accepting the Model of the Year award as the first ever transgender model, you have definitely heard of her. Consani has made a name for herself as Gen Z’s newest “It Girl.”
At the age of twelve, Consani was recognized for being the world’s youngest transgender model. She signed with IMG models in 2019 and started her career as a TikToker in 2020, where her platform grew dramatically with the Covid-19 pandemic. At 12 years old Consani walked in every show during LA Fashion Week, which was also her modeling debut.
She has since walked for various high- end designers, such as Mugler, Alexander McQueen, Versace, Burberry, Chanel, Victoria’s Secret and many more. When she walked for Victoria’s Secret she made history being the first trans model to ever walk in the show.
People—including myself— fell in love with Consani’s relatable humor and big, unfiltered personality. She is humble and down-to-earth which makes her very easily drawn to. Many didn’t even realize her fashion background when first watching her and thought her modeling career came from her TikTok fame.
She grew over three million followers in her first three years on TikTok. Her videos are skits of her in public as different personas in crazy outfits. What makes her videos so enjoyable is she’s being herself and expressing her humor openly and unapologetically, whether it be backstage at the Victoria’s Secret fashion show, on the streets of New York or even on the subway.
Recently, Consani has shown a ton of her support for the Trans community. She even told Harper’s Bazaar she will be “in the streets” fighting for Trans rights and equality. She challenges the government for targeting the trans community and uses her voice to speak for those who feel unheard or “helpless.”
Consani uses her platform and voice for a very good reason: she is a huge advocate for trans youth, equal rights and overall social justice within the United States. Having a huge socialite touch base on such bold and important social justice issues is powerful, especially today.
Consani has expressed her admiration for Black Pioneers. In her Model of the Year acceptance speech, she publicly thanked black transgender women who continuously fought for transgender rights and equality within the industry, and sees them as role models. She believes the resilience displayed is what’s needed to strive and be successful.
Knowing that issues are seen and discussed by bigger names, is what keeps everyone feeling supported, heard and unified. Consani has proved to be an inspiring great role model and the world seems excited to see her career continue to flourish, both on screen and on the runway.
