Your Home Away from Home

Your+Home+Away+from+Home

Moving away from the home you’ve know all your life can be hard, and transitioning into the college lifestyle can be even harder. New classes, new schedules, and new friends can be both exciting and nerve-wracking, so it’s important to have your own tranquil space to relax and call home after a long day. Whether it be a dorm room or your apartment bedroom, your space is your space, and it should be full of nothing but good vibes and happy memories. Here are some tips to make your space equally as cozy in both looks and feel.

Pictures:

Whether it be old photos from your childhood or from a nights out with friends, photos can take you back to specific times in your life and refill your heart with bliss. It’s so important to surround yourself with people who care about you and people you care about as well. It always feels good to be reminded of the good in your life, especially when midterms and finals roll around.

Blankets and Pillows:

Nothing says comfort like a ton of blankets and pillows. There’s no better feeling than jumping into your bed after a long day. Having a perfectly soft comforter and an incredibly fluffy pillow to accompany you makes it that much more enjoyable.

Good Scents:

Our sense of smell is an amazingly powerful capability, and scents have a unique, special way of creating and shaping an entire atmosphere while putting your mind and body at ease. You can achieve a zen mood and mindset through things like incense, candles, or even aromatherapy. Candles in particular add a little something to any environment with their flicker of light; it will really set the mood for a late night study session or an evening of binge-watching Netflix.

Books:

Books double not only as good reads and expansion of our minds, but as quality decorations, too. College is very time consuming, and having time for yourself is crucial. When you do capture that time amidst a busy schedule, grab one of those good looking books, and dive in for a little bit of reading.

Posters and Wall Art Inspirations:

Surrounding yourself with your favorite words and artists can be intellectually inspiring and help you to make the most out of your day. Especially during your college years, it’s important to be consistently surrounded by positivity and provide yourself with ways to avoid stress as much as you can. It’s nice to admire and pay homage to what you love while constantly being reminded of what you believe in and value, as well.

Last but not least…Yourself:

Make sure your dorm or bedroom reflects who you are as a person and is a space truly for your own personal relaxation. Homesickness is real, and we’ve all felt it once or twice for sure. As you complete your space, hopefully you’ll be less prone to missing home. College is a time in your life where you’re actively creating a future for yourself and becoming more and more inspired every day; whether that be through the classes you’re taking or the people you’re meeting. Regardless, your room is the perfect way to display and reflect all that you’re learning about the world and yourself during this time, and it’s never looked so good.
