Shattering the Idea of the Male Gaze through the “Weird Girl Aesthetic”

This style, represented by pattern and texture mixing, layering and mixing lots of bold colors, is what influencer Clara Perlmutter aka @tinyjewishgirl and brands like Jeffrey Campbell are bringing to the table. A huge part of this “weird girl aesthetic” relies on an ironic sex appeal—wearing skintight/revealing garments paired with something that draws your attention away from it being stereotypically “sexy.” This style brings the power back to women, completely shattering the idea of the “male gaze,” which is a powerful direction that we are moving in within the world of fashion.
