The temperature is finally lowering and hopefully, it’s for good this time. As the temperature drops, more layers come on. People switch from shorts to pants and tank tops to hoodies. As our clothing choices shift, our confidence in our outfits shifts as well. Is there a certain season when people at Kent State University feel most comfortable with their outfits? Do their outfits get more or less fashionable as they feel varying confidence levels as the weather changes?
Ava Goshe, a student at Kent State University, talked about her experience with confidence in the outfits she wears in different seasons. Goshe said, “I do think that body image has an effect on people’s outfits; it has for me in the past. I think that if you feel more uncomfortable in your body, it is easier for you to be confident wearing full coverage winter clothes.”
People may have a preference for outfits due to their body confidence. Some choose to experiment more in winter because they have a variety of ways to highlight their fashion with layers. Others choose to dress up in the summer because they get to wear crop tops, skirts and denim.
Lauren Cohen, another student at Kent State University, has a preference for fall outfits. Cohen said, “Fall outfits are my favorite. I love being able to have the choice to wear either a super warm fit or something lighter; the options are so fun!”
Goshe had the opposite opinion– “For me, my preference is summer. I love bright colors and crop tops. I also love that it’s easier to look cute while being comfortable in the summer.”
There are apparent trends we see in the differing seasons. The trends for each season are very cyclical. Cohen said, “I’m seeing a lot of Y2K fashion come back for summer outfits: taller boots, tank tops and bigger accessories are some examples. For winter outfits, I’m excited to see what people decide to wear this year. If it’s anything like last year, it’ll be big: almost clunky shoes and lots of oversized clothes!”
There’s no overall preference for winter or summer clothes, but each person can have their own individual preferences. The clothes you wear each season can depend on how comfortable you feel in your body and that can turn into your preferred season for fashion. All seasons have amazing trends and showstopping outfits, so stay true to yourself and put how you feel first when you’re deciding what to wear all year round.
