On August 26, 2025, the internet broke when music icon Taylor Swift and football star Travis Kelce announced their engagement through a conjoined Instagram post captioned, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” followed by a dynamite, or TNT, emoji. The caption was a huge nod to Swifties across the world as a reference to an inside joke among her fans.
According to People Magazine, the dynamite emoji that signed off the caption is a further reference to the $6,360 TNT tennis bracelet Kelce commissioned for Swift back in January 2024. The bracelet is meant to look like a high-end friendship bracelet, paying tribute to Kelce’s original plan to give Swift his number on a friendship bracelet at The Eras Tour he attended back in July 2023 at Arrowhead Stadium. The designer of the bracelet, Michelle Wie West, was asked by Jimmy Fallon during an episode of The Tonight Show what TNT meant.
“TNT like dynamite?” Fallon questioned.
“Taylor n’ Travis,” West answered.
The proposal Instagram post additionally broke the record for the most liked engagement picture on the platform at over 31 million likes as of Aug. 27.
Neither Swift nor Kelce have ever been publicly engaged before. Kelce got down on one knee after only around two years of dating, contrasting Swift’s previous relationship with Joe Alwyn, who she dated for roughly six years but never got engaged to.
According to BBC News, Kelce popped the question around two weeks ago. After filming the now infamous episode of his and his brother Jason Kelce’s podcast New Heights together, the couple decided to go out to a nice dinner. Briefly after getting ready, however, Kelce proposed that they have a glass of wine beforehand in their backyard.
Swift walked out and saw a beautiful garden set up. It was then that Kelce got on one knee and asked her to spend the rest of her life with him. The value of the ring is unknown, but it was purchased from Artifex Fine Jewelry, a jewelry establishment with prices starting at $29,000. So, we can only imagine the incredible worth of this piece.
“He was going to put it off till this week,” Kelce’s father, Ed Kelce, said in an interview for News 5 Cleveland. The reason being that Kelce wanted to make sure he had created the perfect moment, with the perfect setting on the perfect evening. Ed Kelce convinced him otherwise. His father told him that he could “do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event,” and successfully convinced Kelce that what mattered was their special and beautiful relationship, not how grand the proposal was.
According to The New York Post, Kelce asked for Swift’s father’s blessing about a month ago, to which Scott Swift replied by saying, “Oh, come on, when are you gonna get this done?”
This goes to show that both families think Swift and Kelce are made for each other and can’t wait to begin their rest of their lives together. On behalf of all Swifties, we can hardly wait either.
