Characterized as one of the biggest music festivals in the world, Lollapalooza 2025 came in with some seriously star-studded lineups, including popular artists such as Tyler the Creator, Olivia Rodrigo, Sabrina Carpenter, A$AP Rocky and many more. I was lucky enough to be able to go to Lollapalooza for the first time this year, and I was completely blown out of the water.
The energy of the festival itself was insane, with all the different brand pop-ups, food and drink options and event activities available between music sets. While these things excited me in addition to the performers, what I was most interested in was the clothing that people were wearing to represent their favorite artists.
While festival wear has become extremely popular, method dressing to one’s favorite artist has developed as well. Gracie Abrams fans have their white hair bows while Olivia Rodrigo’s “Livies” lean more toward the punk-pop aesthetic–often incorporating purple accents and butterfly symbols into their clothing. A$AP Rocky inspires people to test casual comfort and high-fashion streetwear, while also adding their own statement accessories.
The Dom Dolla and EDM followers tend to experiment with expressive, comfortable and rave-like garments. In a general sense, I saw a lot of people wearing outfits emphasizing their own personal style and interpretation of the artist. In particular: micro shorts, flowy tops and streetwear styles. It was very interesting to see the unique outfits that people came up with, not only in relation to their favorite artists, but personalized pieces that really made the look their own.
For me personally, I decided to go for more of a minimalist approach. I tried to plan my outfit months in advance, not only for the photo aspect but I considered the hot weather and my ability to walk and move around on a larger scale. I also considered the recent trend in the boho style this year, so I felt the need to incorporate that as well. Wearing a flowy babydoll top from Urban Outfitters, my Adidas sambas and blue linen shorts, I felt ready to take on the festival. I rarely felt hot the day that I went (although I did have a portable fan and water bottle), so it was nice to be able to walk around the festival without suffering in the scorching heat.
Although these types of outfits make for a good homage to popular artists, I felt as if there were a lot of people treating Lollapalooza as more of a concert than an actual festival. People barricading at stages for hours on end, waiting for headliners that wouldn’t come on until later in the night. This is the only thing that I really found frustrating about my experience, but overall I had a fun and fashionable time!
