Fashion and style are everywhere, clothing, nails, homes and even the kitchen. Brands that are known for their stylish tendencies have been taking their products a step further.
Anthropologie, a popular clothing, accessories and décor shop, translates its chic but fun and colorful style into its kitchenware. Its famous “Icon Glasses” have gained traction through social media and continue to be one of its bestsellers as it comes out with new designs. Similar to fashion, its kitchenware changes with the seasons and often reflects the upcoming holidays. Some exciting collections it has recently released are “New York City Ballet” and “Perla,” both of which include many kitchen pieces that all coincide with each other. Its different collections catch customers’ attention as they build excitement for upcoming holidays and foster nostalgia.
Although Anthropologie has made its mark on the décor world, it is not comparable to the wildly popular Mackenzie Childs. Mackenzie Childs is a manufacturer of ceramics, primarily kitchenware, kitchen accessories and décor. The company is known for its classic “Courtly Check” pattern and their whimsical and unique but functional aesthetic. Since Mackenzie Childs designs are so distinctive it draws in consumers and keeps them coming back as they continue to develop an aesthetic and create a specific collection of pieces. This has built a strong community for the brand and special events, like its annual barn sale, attract large numbers of customers. The brand truly embodies a lifestyle that consumers want to fill their homes with.
The brand Smeg, emphasizes style and luxury in its collections rather than connection and whimsy. Smeg’s collaboration with Porsche brings the carmaker brand’s signature luxury and refined design into the kitchen. A toaster, electric kettle, blender and refrigerator are some of the appliances Smeg has applied the name Porsche to. This collection does have style, but it is also to be used as a symbol of class and status, similar to luxury brands and collaboration in fashion.
Smeg continues to represent fashion through its beautiful collaboration with Dolce and Gabbana. The perfume Light Blue by Dolce and Gabbana has a distinctive design that was applied to the kitchen appliances Smeg produced with them. Some items in the collection are a toaster, espresso machine, citrus juicer and refrigerator. This collection is the true definition of combining style and fashion with lifestyle. It is also an innovative way to draw customers from one area of the market to another.
As brands produce more aesthetic and functional products, the consumer view on kitchenware continues to evolve. Instead of being viewed as simply a necessity, it is a way to bring more life and personality into new spaces. These products also use fashion as a tool to interest consumers in their products and bring them in as customers to their brand.
For many, kitchenware is not just about functionality, it is about emotional connection, lifestyle branding and most importantly, style. Each brand’s products evoke a feeling and provide an aesthetic to the consumer. Brands like Anthropologie, Mackenzie Childs and Smeg focus on these aspects, and the style of their products represents that.
