She’s an icon, she’s a legend, and she is the moment. From walking the runway for major fashion houses to taking the spotlight with several viral videos, international supermodel and online phenomenon Alex Consani has had the internet in a chokehold for a reason.
Whether for her beauty, that can only be described as ethereal, or hilarious personality, Consani has been serving looks and jokes online since 2020 and she has only grown in popularity. Currently, with 3 million followers on TikTok, she stands as a great content creator, but also a beacon of inspiration for the LGTBQ+ community.
Consani’s story as a trans woman, serves as an example that, in a world filled with prejudice, even in a career as harsh as modeling, there is space and a chance for success for queer people.
“Especially as a young trans girl, I always saw the lack of representation, and wanted to fill the void and show other trans and nonbinary people that it was beautiful to be trans—not something to be ashamed of,” Consani told Vogue in an interview.
Back in 2015, her mother found a Facebook ad for modeling, and signed her up as she was always interested in tackling the fashion industry. Over the years, she realized her potential and worked her way up until she signed with IMG Models, the same agency of Bella Hadid, Hailey Bieber, Adriana Lima and many other celebrities. From then on, things only looked up, taking her to the runways of Paris and New York fashion weeks.
In an interview for i-D, Alex commented on how she perceives her presence on the runways as a trans woman: “…Society is kind of becoming accustomed to transness. Having those people represent clothing on humans, I feel like that is so important because a lot of times, being trans is like the whole idea of a person, especially in the media. It’s like, this person is trans, they’re not, like, just a pretty person who’s wearing some clothes.” People in the comments relate to her and express how the work she does advocates for inclusion.
Her talent on the runway is a symbol of resistance, and her humor on Tiktok is the best source of entertainment. She started her account during the pandemic out of boredom and saw it grow exponentially over the years. By dancing on the subway, screaming “Where Have You Been” by Rihanna in the middle of NYC and talking to her camera in her room, she charmed viewers with her randomness and authenticity. On a subreddit, users commented they were shocked to learn that she is a supermodel, previously only knowing her for her videos and online presence.
Whether as a representative of the LGBTQ+ community on the fashion week runways, or a great entertainer, Alex Consani reminds us all that, above all else, authenticity is always the best look. By being unapologetically herself, she inspires many and helps to pave the way for future generations for a more inclusive world.
