The student center ballroom was nothing short of regal for the second annual Fabric Pantry Fashion Show. The Fabric Pantry is a student organization that makes fabric accessible to the Kent community. In the pamphlet for the show, it included its mission statement:

“The Fabric Pantry’s goal is to provide free fabric for students and creatives at Kent State. We want to make sure that the cost of getting supplies doesn’t get in the way, and make a more sustainable fashion school.”

Twenty-six talented Kent State students worked to create looks for the show to fit the royal theme — with many using materials from the pantry. The models were adorned in beautiful fabrics and regal silhouettes. From hoop skirts to capes, the garments created for the show looked fresh out of a fairytale. Though all the pieces were created to fit the same theme, they were all unique in their own ways.

The looks were analyzed by a panel of judges, including Justine Gallow, owner of the local Kent circular fashion boutique Sun In Leo, professor and fashion historian Dr. Catherine Leslie and award-winning designer and artist Vince Quevedo.

After a brief intermission, the judges concluded on the three winners of the fashion show.

In third place was freshman fashion design major Austin Frias for the five looks that he created. Frias created a puffed sleeve jacquard dress, an off-the-shoulder gown that had an open skirt with a pearl overlay draped over the model’s shoulders, a structured corset dress with a flared tulle bottom, a satin high-low gown with a corset top and a tuxedo accessorized with a red cape.

Sophomore fashion design major Catherine MacGregor won second place. She had three looks that she was awarded for: a velvet two-piece set with a beaded corset top and midi skirt, a floral corset mini-dress adorned with pearls and with her last look, she set herself apart from the rest and left a mark on the crowd. She created an all-white gown, consisting of another corset top adorned in satin and lace, with the star of the dress being the red embroidery on the back of the train reading, “God Save The Queen.”
