It’s that time of year again! Leaves are falling, pumpkin spice is back on the menus, sleeves are getting longer and you’re returning to school. Whether online or in person, you may be wondering what you can do to spice up your style this season. You may even be asking yourself how to support Black owned businesses. The world is crazy right now and definitely overwhelming. If you’re anything like me, you’re doing online classes, but still want to dress for success and that means back to school shopping! Lucky for you, I’ve been researching the top trends to have in your closet this fall and the best part of it is, you’ll be supporting something extremely important and relevant now more than ever: equality.

Tie-Dye

The first thing to get this season is some sort of tie-dye! That’s right. Tie-dye is back from the early 2000s and is becoming increasingly popular. Whether it be a cute sweatsuit, crop top, or even a bucket hat, tie-dye is definitely in and surely a necessity. Created by Jaime Williams and Charles Royals, NaClO Apparel makes super irresistible tie-dye. They started their business in the midst of COVID-19 while in quarantine. According to their website, “The brand’s goal is to bring fun, colorful and playful loungewear to all people regardless of size or age.” They have clothes stocked all the way from small to 5XL and plan on expanding to 7XL soon. Their clothes are super affordable too. To check out more, their Instagram is @naclo.apparel.

Biker Shorts

The next article of clothing to get in your closet this fall is definitely a new staple item.  Biker shorts look really cool paired with oversize tees or crop tops and can be worn while working out! Re Ona is a women’s ready-to-wear brand. Re Ona also ensures that all clothing is made in a clean and safe environment for all workers. The brand produces products in small quantities to prevent overproduction and excess waste. Re Ona is not only humane, but produces high quality clothing. You can find simple biker shorts on their website made for all skin colors and with sizing from XS to XL. This brand does not just sell biker shorts though. They sell everything from dresses, to bodysuits, tops and bottoms. Their instagram is @reona

Kimonos

The next piece of clothing you’re going to want in your closet for this fall is a Kimono or as some may call it, a robe. Kimonos are not only beautiful, but are very in style recently. TildaKimono is an Etsy shop owned by Tilda Ruvinga. She makes beautiful Kimonos and also produces two-piece sets. Her robes are amazing for a day on the beach, a walk around town, or even just as loungewear. Kimonos look great with a pair of jeans and over a tank top with some cute boots. Her robes are extremely unique to her brand and elegantly made. The instagram for her business is @TildaKimono.

Flare Pants

Another fun necessity for this fall are flare pants. Flare pants have been all over my Instagram recently and I finally gave in and bought a pair. If you’re looking for a little extra flair in your step, you’ll definitely want to buy a pair of these pants. The K Label is a women’s wear brand that is sophisticated, simple and unique. The K Label prides its customers on being able to wear their clothing and express their individuality. Currently on their website is a pair of super dreamy peach flare lounge pants that are to die for. Their instagram is @theklabel.

Accessories

Last but not least is accessories. You can’t have a cute outfit without some trendy accessories to finish it off. Simply Artrageous is owned by Victoria or as some call her, Peaches. She hand makes all of her jewelry and has recently moved off of Etsy onto her own website. Her items are super unique and true to herself. Her website has many different accessories to compliment all of your outfits. She is currently selling her Palm Springs collection of earrings. All of the pieces in this collection resemble something of Palm Springs. It is perfect for anyone who is a minimalist or even someone who likes to wear more complex pieces as well. This collection is “Mid-Century inspired” according to her website. If you’re looking for an awesome way to finish off your look this fall, you should for sure try out these accessories. Her brand’s instagram is @simplyartrageous.

This semester will definitely not be an easy one. One way I motivate myself to get online for classes is by getting ready in an exciting outfit for zoom. If you love clothes as much as I do, and you want a reason to go shopping, go shop at any of these black owned fashion businesses and show your support for the black community. All of these brands have websites so you can safely shop from your bed. I would love to see all of your outfits. If you tried any of these businesses and want to share your new look, post a photo of your new clothes and tag us on Instagram @amagksu. Happy fall!
