Fall to winter transition outfits force fashion to find a new perspective during the changing of the seasons. What once was a simple sweater and jeans can now include new layers, belts, patterns and more. Each brand takes the transition from fall to winter a bit differently.
Ralph Lauren’s Fall 2025 Ready to Wear line showcases lots of layering, faux furs, thick belts and patterns. The line also includes fun frills and lace details that add some lightness to the heavier and darker styles. Miu Miu continues the trend of layering but incorporates more color in their Fall 2025 Ready to Wear line. Many of their models are either wearing or carrying a fur scarf, which can be a staple piece in transitional fashion.
While there are many styles that can be under the umbrella term of “transitional fashion”, what is currently popular in fall to winter transition style, and how can it be translated to everyday fashion?
As previously stated, layering is key, may it be a simple lace shirt under a cardigan or sweater or maybe a button up under a structured coat. This season, texture mixing has become a major element of fall-to-winter styling. Mixing different materials with layering adds depth to an outfit, making multiple pieces pop while also providing more interest to each.
Not only is transitional fashion exciting and timeless, it evokes feelings of nostalgia, emotion and tradition. Ralph Lauren has a more traditional approach to design, so his collections accurately reflect the feelings of this specific time of year through fashion. This sense of nostalgia is echoed across other designers’ Fall 2025 collections as well. Chanel leaned into heritage tweeds and pearl detailing, evoking the elegance of classic French fashion.
These designs remind people of the enduring charm of timeless pieces, structured coats, knee-high boots and soft knits. They resurface year after year but still feel relevant. Beyond the runway, these traditional touches can easily be incorporated into everyday wear. A plaid scarf, a wool blazer or a pair of leather gloves can instantly create that same cozy, familiar feeling that designer’s channel in their collections. As the holidays get closer, these styles connect to memories and blend together new fashions with the comforts of nostalgia.
The creativity on the runway will continue to inspire, reminding everyone that this is the perfect time to experiment and practice self-expression. This transition period encourages trying new things while holding on to each individual’s sense of self.
Transitional fashion this fall-to-winter season is about layering, texture, volume and intentional accents, bringing in heavier pieces but balancing them with lighter, more refined details. By borrowing from what brands like Ralph Lauren, Miu Miu and Chanel are showing, everyday outfits can be created that feel current but still wearable. The goal is not to perfectly copy the runway but to translate the interest it has to your wardrobe.
